REMPIS PERCUSSION QUARTET
The Rempis Percussion Quartet is a free-improvising whirlwind which draws
inspiration from a shared interest in West African and Latin American
rhythms, coupled with American funk and free jazz. Formed originally
for a house party in April 2004, the group's performances maintain an
unabashedly raucous energy based on relentless grooves and unrestrained
blowing, tempered with occasional moments of quiet balladry. After
working regularly for nine months, the group recorded a live session
during a January 2005 residency at Chicago's Empty Bottle, which was
released at their Empty Bottle Festival performance in June of 2005.
A studio record recorded in February of 2005 is slated for release
in the winter of 2006.
