Tim Daisy : Projects
VOX ARCANA
Vox Arcana is a new trio formed by percussionist Tim Daisy, and includes
two mainstays from the Chicago improvised music scene, James Falzone
on clarinet and Fred Lonberg-Holm on cello. The tightly structured
compositions are written for the purpose of further investigating the
dynamic between thematic material and open improvisation, and how
these elements can affect the overall balance of a piece.
The music is influenced by concepts which were being formed by 20th
Century American composers active in New York in the '50s and beyond,
including John Cage, Earl Brown, and Morton Feldman. Further inspiration
comes from the music being made in 1960s Chicago by the AACM, in
particular the work of violinist and composer Leroy Jenkins, as
well as reedist, composer and educator, Anthony Braxton.
